Package: devscripts
Version: 2.11.8
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/debchange

Dear Maintainer,

According to the manpage:

  --vendor vendor
Override the distributor ID over the default returned by dpkg-
vendor. This name is used for heuristics applied to new
package versions and for sanity checking of the target
         distribution.

Unfortunately, this only works for Debian/Ubuntu, I thought that this
--vendor will make versions like '<upstream>-X<vendor>Y'

Maybe, the "<vendor>" part could be generalized, this will permit, for example,
to
make version numbers per distribution.

Regards.

No one other than Ubuntu has expressed requirements about what behavior
should be different in debchange when run on their distribution. As
such, --vendor is currently doing what it was designed to do. If other
distributions do have changes they want made, they can bring it up with
us.
