I understand

I like running "version" on CLI tools just so I know that I have the right
one.

The average .NET/Windows developer dislikes doing things at a command line
to begin with. And I find many developers are unclear on how the PATH
really works, so having the "version" option available to know that I have
the right binary is pretty important part of the getting started experience.
