Description of Duties: Assists biologists in the Nongame native fish,
invertebrates, and amphibians programs to implement projects related to
inventory, monitoring, management, recovery, and conservation of nongame
species within these programs.  Field methods involved in monitoring
efforts include seining, electrofishing, dip nets, and eradication of
non-native species in some areas.  Develops and implements outreach
activities about native fish, invertebrates, and amphibian recovery to
schools and nongovernmental organizations.  Conducts data entry and
analysis; maintains program databases. Periodically supervises field
technicians, interns, and volunteers during field projects.  Reviews and
edits work products (e.g. reports and publications) of co-workers;
prepares environmental compliance documents; develops technical reports
or publications, and popular articles; makes presentations at scientific
conferences, workshops, to cooperating agencies, and the general public.
Reviews popular and technical publications to maintain proficiency in
the recovery of native species.  Operates and maintains a variety of
specialized equipment common to terrestrial, aquatic, and
habitat-oriented wildlife work; uses standard and 4WD vehicles and
watercraft.  Works in remote areas with rugged terrain and variable
weather; camps frequently. Manages and maintains assigned office
equipment, field equipment, and vehicles.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The ideal candidate will have
experience in: wildlife and fisheries field investigations for native
fishes, crustaceans, mollusks, and amphibians; species identification
and habitat requirements; ability to multi-task and adapt to changing
priorities; ability to work independently as well as in a team
environment with individuals from state, federal, and tribal agencies,
and the general public.  The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in
a wildlife science or a closely related field from an accredited college
or university. A medical/physical evaluation is required prior to
appointment.
