Berikut kesan tetangga yang berkesempatan ikut dalam event sejuta pelita.

Apa kabar? so sorry that i did not get to contact you on the day of acara sejutapelita because i managed to get the invitation card from Dewi, a commitee member from MBI. I thought that it would be nice if i can write you a short article on my opinion regarding acara sejutapelita. I hope that my personal comments as a fellow Singaporean would contribute to your magazine.  In fact,  i am already thinking of writing my comments to Jakarta Pos or Singapore newspapers.
 
First of all, I must really congratulate SANGIN and MBI on the success of acara sejutapelita. I felt that my trip to Yogya this time is really worthwhile and fruitful. To be honest, i am really touched by the way committee members put all their heart and soul in making sure that this whole event turn out to be a success. I have never really witnessed such a grand event run so smoothly, with everyone cooperating and with a common goal in mind--to convey Lord Buddha's love for all humankind. I am indeed moved and impressed, even though i cannot proclaim myself as a devout Buddhist.
 
I was really awed into silence that very day, and there was a sense of peace that i never have felt all my life. I am especially impressed by the fact that goodie bags, filled with lots of foodstuffs, were distributed to all who were present. That act itself is a display of unconditional love for humankind, regardless of race, religion and ethnicity.Those goodie bags might have helped some families who are struggling to make ends meet, at least for a week or more, I thought. The smile of contentment and happiness on the faces of all who received the foodstuffs is deeply etched in my heart
 
It was also the first time i realised that there is actually a considerable number of local Pribumis who are Buddhists, contrary to what i have thought previously. (that most Buddhists are Chinese). It is very heartening to find out how both Pribumis and Indonesians of Chinese origins could work hand in hand together for a common purpose.(especially with the knowledge of  history and conflicts involved between these two ethnic groups).
 
 As a foreign tourist, i am indeed impressed. I enjoyed most sitting around Borobudur and talking to the Buddhist community that day. When they knew that i made a trip all the way to attend the festival, they were all so ready to help me and to contribute whatever information they know. I could instantly feel that kind of warmth and love that transcend all boundaries.
At that moment, i forgot that i am a tourist from a foreign land, i just felt that I was part of a big family, a family which never fails to welcome human beings.
Amidst the recent terrorist bombings in London, which really saddens me and many others, the acara sejutapelita, somehow, brings a sense of solace to me. It was a kind of quiet contemplation that no amount of words could fully describe.
 
I have heard from some Buddhists that day that the upacara Waisak next year would be organised by KASI, not WALUBI. You know what? I am already feeling quite excited about the event and looking forward to attending it.
 
Before i pen off, I would like to add some of my personal suggestions.I do somehow wish that there would be some rules and regulations set on Borobudur premises. For example, perhaps touching the Buddha statues  should not be allowed. I think it is fair enough for all visitors to take pictures of the monument and Buddha statues. However, touching the Buddha statues, from head to toe, seems not too appropriate---at least in my personal opinion. Although many might regard Borobudur as a secular artifact in this present day, i feel that some degree of respect for this religious monument is still required.
 
Last but not least, I want to wish all Indonesians and the rest of the world peace, happiness and good health. A heartfelt 'THANK-YOU' to acara sejuta-pelita, for leaving me with a beautiful memory of a lifetime!

Borobudur Bertabur Cahaya Sejuta Lilin

CANDI Borobudur semalam bertabur cahaya sejuta lilin yang dinyalakan serentak. Di bawah siraman cahaya bulan purnama, bangunan peninggalan Dinasti Syailendra itu tampak eksotik.

Ketua Umum DPP Majelis Buddhayana Indonesia (MBI) Sudhamek AWS SE SH mengatakan, satu juta lilin itu dinyalakan 1.800 orang yang sudah dilatih. Satu orang bertanggung jawab menyalakan 555 lilin sehingga memerlukan waktu dua jam untuk membuat lilin-lilin tersebut menyala. Sementara itu, sumber api diperoleh dari api alam Mrapen, Grobogan.

Lilin itu dinyalakan dalam rangka "Sejuta Pelita Sejuta Harapan, Doa untuk Bangsa" di Lapangan Guna Dharma Zona II Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur.

Malam itu juga diadakan doa bersama lintas agama untuk keselamatan bangsa dan negara di samping merayakan HUT Ke-50 MBI. "Bangsa kita kini memiliki beberapa permasalahan yang sangat pelik dan cukup banyak. Barangkali itu bisa disimbolkan dengan banyaknya pelita yang dinyalakan," kata Sudhamek.

Kegiatan ini juga menjadi forum berbagai agama untuk menyatukan hati dan pikiran, dalam rangka ikut memecahkan masalah bangsa dan negara ini. Tidak hanya melalui pendekatan rasional tetapi juga spiritual.

Dalam kesempatan itu, hadir pula Gubernur Jateng H Mardiyanto, Sekjen Depag KGBPH Hadi Winoto, Prof Dr Said Agil Siraj, dan Romo Frans Magnis Suseno.

Sementara itu, mantan Ketua Umum Pimpinan Pusat Muhamamdiyah Syafi'i Maarif mengatakan, penegasan energi agama memang perlu untuk perbaikan moral bangsa.

Menurut dia, ada kelompok fundamentalis dan kelompok sekuler. Kelompok fundamentalis menggunakan agama untuk mencapai kekuasaan sedangkan sekuler menolak Tuhan untuk memberhalakan manusia.

Ia mengharapkan, acara "Sejuta Pelita Sejuta Harapan" ini benar-benar dapat menjadi pencerahan. Sebab, beragama harus serius sehingga manusia tidak bisa main sebelah mata dengan Tuhan.

Ia menyebutkan, penilaian dunia saat ini tunggang langgang. Dua pertiga umat manusia dalam kemiskinan sedangkan sepertiganya lagi menikmati kekayaan dengan seenaknya.

Terorisme ada di mana-mana dalam berbagai bentuk, baik perorangan maupun kelompok. Karena itu, agama benar-benar perlu berperan dan tidak sekadar seremonial.

Romo Frans Magnis Suseno menandaskan, penting sekali para penganut agama-agama belajar saling menghormati sehingga masa depan agama-agama juga seperti itu. (pr-14m)
