The dharani is in abudance of supreme virtues. It is able to help sentient beings from the great darkness, and guide them into the firm tranquility. [So it can] bring great wholesome virtues. Then The Buddha spoke the dharani (Chinese version): TUO DIE YE TA BO LUO SU LI SU LI SU LI LI SHA MO DI MO HE SUO MO DI SUO MAN DI MO HE SUO MAN DI SUO LI SUO LUO LI SUO HA Thus, this was how the both bodhisattvas received the dharani from Buddha. In the time it takes for a vigorous person to bend and extend his arm, they departed from the Flower of Living Being Buddha Land to the Shravasti, Jeta Groove, in the Garden of Orphans and Mendicants. The both bodhisattvas visited the Buddha Sakyamuni and paid him homage. They said, "World Honored One, There is a Buddha Land whose distance is ten thousand nayuta koti from this world. Its name is The Flower of Living Being. Its Buddha is named Supreme-Lamp-King, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, Buddha, World Honored One. That Buddha is now present there to teach the Dharma. He sent us here to meet you. The human beings in Saha World are tortured by sickness and caught by anger, so they can not abide in tranquility This also happens to ghosts, gods, spirits, and yakshas. And not yet mentioned: hungry ghosts, asuras, garudas, ganren ghost, gantuo ghost, yibing ghosts, ghosts who cause madness to human beings, ghosts who disturb the human mind, ghost in the cross of the streets, ghost who cause one day sickness, ghosts who cause two, three, until seved day sickness, [and] ghosts who cause common diseases. All of them are caught by the false view of anger. Supreme-Lamp-King Tathagataraja has sent this dharani to World Honoured One and also all beings in Saha World, which are caught by passion and covered by great darkness, so they can realise the firm tranquility and get the great wholesome virtue." Then the dharani was spoken again. At that time, Buddha told Ananda, "You should accept and hold this dharani, and recite it fluently. Teach its [meaning], write, and maintain this dharani. Why? because a Buddha's appearance in this world is difficult to encounter. But having opportunity to hold this dharani is even more difficult. Ananda, whomsoever receive, memorize, learn, recite, and widespread it, will get a great good fortune.
