 Dear all,

Sekuntum teratai untuk Sis and Bro semua, para calon Buddha.

Menonton riwayat hidup Master Hong Yi sejujurnya memberikan sesuatu yg sangat

lagu Triratna, "Di mana kan ku dapati suluh kehidupan..." Ingatkan lagu itu?"

Berikut adalah sedikit riwayat beliau .

  Ven. Master Hong Yi
Before he was ordained, Master Hong Yi was known by his given name, Li Shu
Tong. He was born into a wealthy family in Tianjin in 1880. Since a young age,
he had shown great talents in the fields of poetry, calligraphy, painting and
music. Upon reaching the age of 19, he moved to Shanghai and enrolled himself
into the Nanyang Public School. While studying there, Li formed the Shanghai
Painting and Calligraphy Society.
In 1905, Li moved to Tokyo to further his studies. He enrolled himself in an
arts college, pursuing the study of Western painting and Western music.
Together with some others, Li also founded the Chun Liu Drama Society, which
performed many Western theatres including the renowned theatre, “Camille”. In
so doing, they were the first Chinese group to ever perform a Western theatre.
After graduating in 1910, Li returned to China. He first started working as
an editor of a newspaper and a magazine. Two years later, Li took up teaching.
He taught painting and music in various colleges in Hangzhou and Nanjing from
1912 to 1918. During this period of time, Li’s reputation grew, as he became
the first Chinese educator to use nude models in his painting classes, as well
as the first to teach Western music in China. Some of the students whom he
personally groomed, went on to become accomplished masters of the arts in their
later days. Li Shu Tong himself was also an accomplished composer and lyricist.
Many of his compositions are still remembered and performed today.
In 1916, Li underwent a 17-day fast at a temple in Hangzhou, and experienced
the benefit of a spiritual life. The following year, he took refuge in the
Three Jewels of Buddhism. In 1918, Li began a new chapter in his life by
choosing to be ordained as a monk. Thus began a holistic life dedicated to
propagating Buddhism and its code of conduct. He became known to all as Master
Hong Yi. In 1942, Master Hong Yi passed away peacefully in Quanzhou.

Salam Perjuangan
