Well, the LUG mailing list I'm on mentioned this a little while ago, and
I've noticed it on my box, which doesn't run DHCPd (although it does run
gobs of other stuff...).

The only explanation I've seen is that Linux grabs free memory to use as
buffers.  In the event that something then wants the memory, Linux happily
releases it to the program, thus leading to no need for swapping [until all
RAM really is exhausted].  So memory seems to leak because it is being used
for buffering.

I think that the long and the short of it is that it's harmless.
BTW, I'm running 2.0.36.

I could be really wrong and something is leaking like a sieve, but I
haven't seen any harmful effects yet...
