I'm a little confused about something.
If I install the latest DHCPd on my Linux-based server, and configure my
client machines properly, each client will be assigned an IP address by
DHCPd. But how do machines communicate among each other given that the IP
address assigned is only known by the server and the client machine?
Let's say I have server machine A and client machines B and C. Both B and
C are assigned IP addresses and can communicate with A. How do B and C
communicate between themselves? If I am logged onto client machine B and
wish to telnet to C, how is C's IP address resolved?
Please excuse me if this is a dumb question. Up to now I've been using a
hosts file on each machine on my LAN. Each machine can communicate with
any other because every valid IP address is listed in the hosts file.
Thank you.
