Not quite that bad - you should be able to just force the modules to be
loaded at boot time (add the appropriate lines to one of the rc scripts) -
then the appropriate code will be available to the kernel.

This should be reported to kernel developers - what's the point of having
demand-loaded modules if they're not loaded when needed? 

I've seen this happen before with syslogd and tcpdump failing due to the
appropriate module not been loaded when required - both were fixed in latter
kernel releases when the developers found out...
