We've been running ISC 1-0-0 for quite some time now with very
few problems. Recently we've had some Mac clients misbehaving
and ending up with multiple entries in dhcpd.leases. It seems
prudent to upgrade at this point but I have a few concerns that I
hope you can dismiss.

Recently Ted wondered if anyone was still using 1-0. I took that to
mean 2-x (at least some versions) is quite stable and widely used
even if that's not the "official" ISC posture. I'm guessing that 2.x is
about to be the "official" release soon. I don't need the client
software at this moment but the other 2.x features seem desirable.
With that in mind:

1) Which version is the latest (most stable) 2x version? I see
2.0b1pl18 on the ftp site but someone recently mentioned a newer
version (24?). Where do I get that? Do I want to get that?

2) Are there any problems/concerns/cautions converting from 1x to
2x? (Of course I'll back up the leases and executables). Does
DHCPD.LEASES format change? I haven't found any
documentation that discusses 1-->2 upgrade (but I could have
missed it).

3) Is it as easy as moving the new DHCPD into place and
restarting the server?

If you think I should stick with the latest 1.x instead that's OK too.

Thanks for your help.

Steve
