Ted et all...

I'm running the ISC DHCP server here at UCSB on our
residential network with about 2300 users across 17
subnets with 12 hour lease times. The current config and
lease file has been used since just before school started
here last September.

I am a bit confused about the aging of the dhcpd.leases
file. I read the man page and it tells about rewriting it
up "from time to time" but doesn't really say how often or
what exactly it does. I find leases in the file which
expired well over 7 months ago but (according to reports)
unique MAC addresses counts are decreasing at the rate of
one or two a day.

Can you enlighten me on how the file is aged so I may
accurately log connected computers for the year.

JDP
