Same problem with Cisco Catalyst switches. The spanning tree takes too
long to search for loops , so the workstation gives up. Seen the problem
with both PC's and imacs.
On the Cisco Catalyst 3000 series switches the advice was to turn off
spanning tree.
Later switches have something called 'portfast' which changes the
spanning tree to forward first, then check for loops instead of check
then forward.
I would say it the same problem I had with the Cisco Catalyst switches,
the spanning tree learning time is to slow.
