Probably unpopular opinion as I know ISC's pushing Kea as the new best
thing.

Is/was there any movement as far as a fork of dhcpd to another community
supported project? (maybe something like the way MySQL spun into
MariaDB, etc).

Hi Robert,

We did ask on this list if anyone was interested in taking over ISC-DHCP as an
?authorized? fork, and in the end, no, we did not get any volunteers. There was
one person who indicated they might want to maintain the client, as part of a
team, if we could find others to help, but nothing that rose to the level of a
viable committment.

In case you haven't found it, we announced the EOL here on this list
(https://lists.isc.org/pipermail/dhcp-users/2022-October/022786.html)
https://lists.isc.org/pipermail/dhcp-users/2022-October/022786.htmland on the
ISC web site, https://www.isc.org/blogs/isc-dhcp-eol/ a year ago, and I am
unaware of any actively-maintained fork. If you happen to find one though,
please do let us know, as there are several places where I could drop
breadcrumbs to make it easier for users to find these.

The problems we faced in continuing to maintain ISC DHCP would also present
difficulties for other maintainers, so I am not very surprised that we haven?t
seen a viable fork emerge.

Regards,

Vicky Risk, ISC Product Manager

Sorry, could not resist, but pulling the plug on ISC DHCP is actually
presenting difficulties to probably tens of thousands of network admins
at this very minute.

Greetings
Marc

I'm aware of the EOL which is why I asked about maybe a community fork
being a possibility. I know several networks (including our own) that
use ISC DHCP extensively and to just forktruck to Kea (which isn't a
seamless transition that I've read) will be a large project for many
network operators.
