This seems to be an effect of the (default) catoptioncombo not being displayed when the Excel item is chosen. The expression becomes something like [12345.]. Note the catoptiomcombo ID is not displayed in the formula, but the formula is validated nonetheless. By manually specifying the default catoptiocombo such as [12345.11] where 11 is the catoptioncombo ID, this bug does not occur.
