Important information regarding Excel Pivot Tables set up and Excel versions:
(Thanks Crizelle) ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Crizelle Nel <[email protected]> Date: 19 April 2012 18:34 Subject: Working with different Pivot Table formats in Office Excel To: "hispadmin@hisp. org" <[email protected]>, [email protected] Hi everyone, Please take note of the following w.r.t pivot table compatibility between the various versions of Office: (1) If Office 2003 is used to create a pivot table (in .xls format), then that pivot will be fully functional in Office 2003, 2007 and 2010. (2) If Office 2007 or Office 2010 is used to create a new pivot table, then that pivot table will be fully functional in both Office 2007 or 2010, irrespective whether it was saved as an Excel Workbook [.xlsx], an Excel Makro-Enabled Workbook [.xlsm] or an Excel 97-2003 Workbook [.xls]. (3) If a pivot table that was created in Office 2007 or Office 2010 was saved as an Excel 97-2003 Workbook [.xls], it becomes Read-Only and loses it's pivot functionality when it is opened in Office 2003. This is because it is opened in Compatibility Mode. (4) If a pivot table that was created in Office 2003 (in .xls format) is opened in Office 2007 or 2010 and is then saved as an Excel 97-2003 Workbook [.xls], it will still be fully functional when opened in Office 2003. (5) If a pivot table that was created in Office 2003 (in .xls format) is opened in Office 2007 or 2010 and is then saved as an Excel Workbook [.xlsx] or an Excel Makro-Enabled Workbook [.xlsm], it will only be functional in Office 2007 and Office 2010. * In summary:* ** If you want to create a pivot table that can be used in Office 2003 then the pivot needs to be created using Office 2003. * If you want to create a pivot that can be used in Office 2007 or Office 2010 then it can be created in Office 2003, 2007 or 2010.* For more detailed information about this topic, open Excel, click the Excel Help button and search for and read the article on *Working with different PivotTable formats in Office Excel**.* -- Regards, Crizelle Nel Health Information Systems Programme (HISP) Software Development Team Email: [email protected] Cell: 084 580 3342 Fax: 0866 509 502 Web: http://www.hisp.org/
