Morten It seems to be related to Java 8 update 25 - Java 8 update 05 worked fine, and I've now reverted to Java 7 update 71 which is also working OK. I don't really have the expertise to debug Java 8-25 and no time for it now, but I would suggest somebody with an in-depth understanding of both Java and Tomcat do a quick test - it COULD simply be a configuration setting I've overlooked.
