Hi Hari!
An event can be completed in the tracker and event capture user interfaces, 
usually as the last step of the data entry process. When the event is completed 
- by clicking the complete event button - it will be moved from its current 
status to the complete status.
Based on your programs configuration the events data might become locked when 
the event is completed, and no further change can be performed while the event 
is residing in the completed status. The completed status can also be useful 
for filtering and reporting.The functional meaning of completing an event is 
mainly depending on your context. You asked about competing old events - are 
you planning to start using the completed status in an ongoing project that has 
not already used it?
