Sorry for the snipping. Well, I don't really know whether there have been
significant changes in saxlib recently, this is a package I don't follow
closely. checktrans.py is basically rubbish code which happens to work on my
machine: if a saxlib expert has a better idea why it fails and how to fix
it, I'd be extremely happy to hear about that...

It should, indeed. Perhaps stracing dia (|grep open) could provide clues ?
