There are many other things you can also filter on other than the subject
line (various mail headers, the footnote that is always included, etc).

I would encourage people to use more descriptive subject lines, think
of it as a summary and if you can describe the gist of the whole message
in just one line then please do.

It looks as if you are using a Mozilla based mail client.
If you spamfilter is good it doesn't sound like it is well configured.

If you get the Digest in MIME mode it is possible to reply to individual
messages if you have a clever mail client.

I would very strongly prefer if the subject line was left as is.

With all due respect I highly recommend you invest in a mail program that
supports message threading, which makes it far easier to indentify mailing
list discussions.
