You will need to read the spec on SVG to get deep into how the graphic entities are created and how they behave. I can assure you that if stretching grouped objects was easy then one of our esteemed programmers would have done so. But I am sure they will welcome any help. Not being a programmer I thought I might try to write documentation on shape creation, but I couldn't wade through that spec to get the necessary background.
