Hi Oswald, Shape names with spaces should not cause any problems - look at the shape names included in the Dia distribution. Most of them contain spaces.
A similar problem has been reported in bugzilla - possibly the comments there will help you: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=603723 My guess is that there is another copy of your symbol on your system that you've overlooked so far.
