Dia is no cost to users. Dia is a volunteer organization. Though there may be a need for contributions it isn't a topic of much public discussion. Someone else will let you know about that.
If you want to contribute brain power there are opportunities such as developing new shape palettes, writing help files and tutorials, translating those file into more languages, helping people who ask questions in this forum, and all manner of program development work. Thanks for noting the wonderfulness, and even thinking about contributing.
