Thanks Les for your interesting observations.
I never thought of siloxanes but you're probably right.
Anyway I think it's a quite innovative biomass to use for digestion.
If anybody know something about its use in anaerobic digestion, please let me
know.
Best regards!

Subject: Re: [Digestion] Giant reed (arundo donax) digestion

Good question! The reed is unique in it's ability to lock silicon into its
stem tissues. That's why it is used for making oboe reeds. When digested the
silicone would most likely be expresses as siloxanes in the Biogas. But I have
not seen any data. Good research project for someone. I would think
phragmites Australis would be a better bet. You can grow the latter in a reed
bed on the final effluent. The resulting effluent would be crystal clear and
the productivity of the reed bed very high. Hmmmmm :-).

Good evening everybody,
I would like to know if you know about any biogas plant running on codigestion
of arundo donax (giant reed). If yes, in what percentage? What are the other
substrates? What kind of pretreatment is required?
Thank you very much in advance,
best regards.
