Hopping in late here, but I've read this thread with interest.

Asking people on the wrong side of the Digital Divide to have laptops is like requiring people on this side of the Digital Divide to have wearable computers. Reality must set in. I think the laptop requirement is a gross mistake from where I am, but I also know that if it doesn't work the administration will have to go find another way to solve whatever problem they are trying to solve - plus another problem.

Personally, I think the next great mind will not come from a school with computers required. If you can't add these numbers in your head within 5 seconds, you make my point:

432+2340

Did you do it?

Will the next generation be able to do it? I fear that all they will be able to do in their head is calculate how many computers they have.
