hi everyone -
when the video editing program called "avid free dv" came out last
year, this software received lukewarm reviews in various newspapers
and magazines. silly me, i placed trust in the reviewer's judgment
and didn't take a close look at the program.
earlier today i visited a professional video editing company that
uses avid free dv -- and loves it. the president of the company
gave me a quick tour of the application, and i can see why she
loves it.
avid free dv is a no-cost program that can be downloaded from the
avid.com web site. (search google to find it fast.) the avid
web site has some nice flash tutorials explaining how to use the
program. i particularly like the titling in avid free dv. the
titling in avid free dv is much stronger than in imovie.
it's useful to note that the hardware requirements for avid free
dv are higher than imovie. you need to have a 667 MHz G4 Mac (or
equivalent windows computer) to edit using avid free dv.
avid free dv would run well on new emacs -- being sold for $800
these days. you would need to add memory (a gigabyte is
recommended) for avid free dv to run well.
