I thought I'd send out the latest news from the DDN site:

Poor farmers in rural Peru are recipients of an initiative to build a
wireless infrastructure between 14 area community technology centers. Using
free open source software and affordable computer equipment, the centers,
located in the Huaral Valley, will offer Internet access, equipment and
training to more than 6,000 community inhabitants.

The $200,000 project is led by Cepes (Peruvian Centre for Social Studies)
and features the Agricultural Information System at
<http://www.huaral.org>. On this site, farmers can get important
information like updated prices on produce, information on pest control and
irrigation. Said Carlos Saldarriaga, technical coordinator at
Cepes,"Throughout the last three years, the people have provided a vital
thrust to the project; they feel it belongs to them."
