Emergency Announcement: Earthquake and Tidal Waves Affect
West Coast of Thailand

Due to the demands of handling services resulting from the tidal
waves on the southwest coast of Thailand, the American Citizen
Services Unit currently is only providing emergency services.

Hotlines: To contact the American Citizen Services Section for
assistance or to report missing American Citizens, please
contact: 66-2-205-4049 (02-205-4049 from within Thailand).
Please provide your name and contact number(s), and the American's
name and date of birth or passport number.

Due to the large volume of calls, please be patient and your call will be
answered.From the United States, the State Department has set up
a toll-free hotline at (888) 407-4747. The Ministry of Information and
Radio Thailand have established English-language information lines
at 66-2-275-8626, 66-2-275-8627, and 66-2-276-8883 (02-275-8626,
02-275-8627, and 02-276-8883 from within Thailand).

Thai Government English-language Call Center can be reached at
66-1-643-2755 or 66-76-214-492 (076-214-492 or 01-643-2755 from
within Thailand). The numbers for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
24-hour coordinating center for foreign nationals are 66-2-643-5262
and 66-2-643-5000 ext. 5003 and 5502 (02-643-5262 and
02-643-5000 ext. 5003 and 5502 from within Thailand). The Phuket
Tourist Police number is 66-76-355-015 (076-355-015 from within
Thailand).

For less urgent matters, please assist us by leaving the lines open
and sending an e-mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Emergency Services: The U.S. Embassy has officers stationed at
the Sala Daeng in the Town Hall in Phuket Town. This building is
serving as a Thai government command center for transport out of
affected areas, and those wishing to leave Phuket should check
in immediately upon arrival. Additional American officers are in
transit to the region. The Embassy is also in the process of setting
up a center at the Don Muang Airport in Bangkok to provide Emergency
services.

Travel Guidance: The State Department has issued updated travel
advice for the western coast of Thailand which may be found at the
State Department Public Announcement web page.

Emergency Passport Services: If you have lost a passport in the
tidal wave, Thai authorities are working to arrange for foreigners to
travel within Thailand without documentation. The Embassy will
replace your passport in Bangkok. For more information on passports,

Areas Affected: The following provinces and resort areas on the west
coast of Thailand were among those affected by the tidal wave: Krabi,
Phuket, Phang Nga, Ranong, Satun, Trang, Khaolak, Koh Surin,
Ta Kua Pa, Koh Similan, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, Koh Yao.

Emergency Services : The U.S. Embassy urges Americans to
contact the embassy in cases involving dire medical emergencies.
We are currently working with hospitals and medical providers to
take care of your medical needs. Otherwise, please contact the
local authorities to obtain information on how to travel to Colombo.
We are responding only to dire medical emergencies at this time.

Travel Guidance: The Embassy of Sri Lanka has posted several
warning notices. Additionally, our current public announcement
urges American Citizens to avoid travel to Sri Lanka at this time.

Emergency Passport Services:

If you have lost a passport in the tidal wave, please come to the
US Embassy at 210 Galle Road, Colombo.

Areas Affected:
Except for the northwestern areas, most of the coastline of Sri Lanka
has been affected by the tidal wave. Estimated casualties in Sri Lanka
are very high.

Other:

Please keep in mind that this event has caused a great deal of
dislocation.  We are working with the Government of Sri Lanka
to try to overcome these difficult problems associated with the
tsunami and the aftereffects of the terrible destruction in so many
areas of the country.
