Well, MP3 is basically a compression - the MP3 software has a frequency
based model of a human ear in it, and it omits any sound that the human
ear would not be able to pick up. Of course, some MP3 software has
better models for this than others.

For compression, a ZIP/TAR could be used, but I would advise going
through it and clipping out long periods of silence (Phil Shapiro should
have pointers on that, he and I were working on something which I can't
remember the details of right now). If it's still big - and I expect it
will be - consider breaking the file into 10 meg size files.
