FirstGov has developed a page with government-wide information
about the tsunami in South Asia:
     http://www.firstgov.gov/Citizen/Topics/Asia_Tsunamis.shtml.
      It's a
prominent link from the FirstGov home page, in our "In Focus" box. We
also link to the page from several of our audience and topics
pages:
Americans Living Abroad, Defense and International, and Public Safety.
The new page contains links from many agencies about how to find out
about the whereabouts of Americans in the region, how to provide
humanitarian relief, information about earthquakes and tsunamis, and
     other news about the disaster.

We thought we'd share this with you in case your agency already has
information about the earthquake and tsunamis, and you'd like a way to
link to information from across the government.

We plan to continuously add more information as it becomes available.
If you know of additional resources we should link to, or if you have
ideas for how we can make this page more useful, please let us know.

     Thanks very much,

     Sheila

Subject: [DDN] Re: Request for contact from Aid agencies operating in
tsunami affected areas.

I apologize for the crosspost, but I'm at wit's end trying to figure out who
to contact. Bear with me.

I'm the project coordinator for Alert Retrieval Cache (ARC), which Andy
Carvin mentions here:
http://www.digitaldivide.net/articles/view.php?ArticleID=84
The NPR's The World ran something on us today, we were interviewed.

You can read about ARC here:
http://www.socialtext.net/tsunamihelp/index.cgi?arc

What I am trying to do is get a hold of agencies operating in the region who
might see some benefit in all of this. It's amazing how difficult it is to
find contacts to help people in Aid agencies... this system, once out and in
the field, can help coordinate assistance and aid. There are a few details
that need to be worked out, but none of them require money
- the ARC is available at no charge for aid agencies operating in the area.
It's a closed system, and can allow relief workers to send information to
systems in operating centers. All it requires are some people in the
operating center to subscribe to the list.

Feel free to forward this message to anyone you think might have a remote
chance of knowing someone who can use this system.
