hi DDN people -

one way you can help others get to know you here in the DDN
community is to create one or more links from your DDN profile to
messages you've sent to the DDN email list. i've added a couple such
links to the bottom of my DDN profile at
 http://www.digitaldivide.net/profile/pshapiro

how can you find the web site address of your archived DDN email
list messages? good question. at the bottom of any email message
sent to the DDN list is a link taking you to the DDN list web page.
right there you'll see a link to the archive of the messages from
the DDN email list.

each message sent to the list has a unique web site address. you
can find the unique web site address of your email message by
poking around in the archives until you find it. then click on the
link to your message. you can then select and copy/paste the web
site address of that message into your DDN profile, adding in the
subject of the message as the text you're linking from.

it helps if you add some explanatory text above these links --
such as - "Here are some messages I've sent to the Digital
Divide Network email list."

if i were a reporter writing an article about the DDN email list
and web site, the first thing i'd do is go to the archive of the
list and ask myself the question: "who is here and what are they
talking about?" i would click on the "author" heading in the
list archive to see a list of messages categorized by author.

since a reporter's time is always limited, they're likely to
focus on frequent posters to the DDN list and size up the scope
of what they're talking about.

as a friendly suggestion, choose carefully the DDN email list
messages you link to from your profile. these messages should
be revealing of who you are and what you care about.

hope this suggestion proves useful to others. i'm still
learning how to make the best use of the new DDN web site.
if you have tips about using the site, do please post them
to the DDN email list. at all times our ignorance remains
vast, but it reduces considerably when we share what we
know.

                      - phil
