Hi DDN community -

I'm trying out some free software called Shinkuro that allows one
computer to broadcast their screen to many others. This software
works on Linux, Macintosh and Windows.

I currently have the software installed and running well on my
iBook laptop. I'm curious to try this in combination with
Skype phone calls. I have a separate Windows XP computer that I
can use for the Skype calling part.

Thanks for letting me know if you're interested in giving this
a try. I don't know all the possibles uses of this software,
but am intrigued to explore what they might be. As I
understand it, this software would let someone narrate a
PowerPoint presentation remotely, or give tours of web sites
or give other remote computer instruction.

This software might allow someone using Windows software to
teach that software to Macintosh or Linux users (or
vice-versa.) We really do need more cross-platform teaching
going on.

I'm appending below the text that explains the "screen
broadcasting" capabilities of Shinkuro.

Brief Overview: Screen Sharing*

With screen sharing, you can share a view of your entire desktop with one
of your groups. Any member of the group that "tunes in" will see
everything that changes on your desktop until you turn off sharing. You
can use screen sharing to give a PowerPoint presentation remotely or
collaborate on document editing. The other person will be able to see,
but not make changes to, items on your screen.

To share your screen, click on the groups tab and select a group. From
the group panel, select the "screen" tab and select "broadcast" at the
bottom of the screen. Any member of the group can then tune in to your
broadcast. To stop broadcasting simply uncheck the broadcast button.
