If you have time to view parts of the webcast, I would suggest everyone on the list would enjoy the key note address by Eugenie Prime. (minutes: 15:40-59:00) She suggests that what is needed to overcome Health Disparities is a Manhattan Project - that there were several components that went into that project that made it successful: a sense of urgency, an empowering vision, passion, promiscuous partners and execution. Her talk was very inspiring, and I think could apply equally as well to the Digital Divide. Another great paper to read from this symposium was written by Gary Kreps of George Mason University titled "Disseminating Relevant Health Information to Underserved Audiences: Implications from the Digital Divide Pilot Projects" http://medstat.med.utah.edu/symposium/docs/KrepsDDPP.pdf He introduced the research section of the symposium ( Web cast Minutes 1:12-2:40) Lots of great ideas, and when working with communities, it has to be done in partnership with the community. I have been Community Outreach Librarian for two years now, and would get nowhere if people in the community didn't welcome me and talk to me, and set me straight.
