Hi DDN community -

In the next few months it's pretty likely that one or more
newspaper stories will be written about the new DDN web site and
the DDN community. One of the questions reporters will be asking
is: "What impact has the DDN community had?"

Do you have a story about how the Digital Divide Network has
connected you to people you otherwise wouldn't have met in your
own town? Have you encountered information, resources or ideas
via the DDN list or web site that have been helpful to you in a
specific way? Has the existence of the Digital Divide Network
spurred you to embark on projects that you might otherwise not
have embarked on -- knowing that you had an existing community of
peers to share the project results with?

This is a good time to start documenting those stories. a good
place to do it is right on your blog on the DDN's web site. You
can set up your blog quickly and easily via the Profile on the
DDN web site.

Strategically, it's best to share these stories when you're not
too pressed for time. When a reporter is working on a news
story, you can bet that they'll have a tight deadline to meet
-- sometimes the same day that they started working on the
story. What happens then is that if you're too busy on that
day, the reporter misses hearing about your story and the
quality of the article being written is accordingly diminished.

So the more we do our storytelling ahead of time, the better
we'll be prepared when someone comes story fishing.

If you're new to the Digital Divide Network and care to share
some positive thoughts about the DDN list (or the new DDN web
site), blogging about it here on the DDN web site adds real
value to the site. Choose your words carefully. You may end
up being quoted by a reporter.

As a friendly suggestion, please don't say something like: "This
site is great!" That's just a bare opinion and has almost no
interest to a reporter. Explain why. Every comment you make is a
reflection on the greater DDN community. As an early adopter, by
making comments that are thoughtful, you establish the early
tradition of the DDN site as a place where thoughtful comments
are made.
