Civil Society and Multi-Stakeholderism: Discussion emerging about opportunities and strange bedfellows

Ralf Bendrath of the Heinrich-B�ll-Foundation has written this essay about the internal debates within civil society whether it should or shouldn't work more closely with the private sector and governments in the WSIS process. While some civil society representatives advocate a "multi-stakeholder approach" in which they find ways of working closely with these sectors, others argue that civil society must remain independent so it may fight against policies that they believe are not in the public interest.
