Hi all, These are the 18 countries that have achieved debt cancellation status according to the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) program. Of these 18, I think 4 had already been cancelled and the other 14 are the ones being discussed for cancellation at Gleneagles:
Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guyana, Honduras, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. As you can see, neither S. Africa, Rhodesia nor Zimbabwe are included in the list. It seems an error that people are just talking about Africa without taking into account any differences that may exist between one country and another. In this forum, we should be concerned that talking is done based on facts and not on stereotypes.
