There are two products that can be discussed in this way. Both with similar capabilities.
Google Satellite Maps http://maps.google.com/maps?spn=58.614258,92.346680&t=k&hl=en Worldwide mapping with satellite images. This has an open api people can access and should be platform independant. Here is a page showing hostels in Austin, TX http://maps.google.com/maps?q=hostel+austin,+tx&spn=0.228962,0.360729&t=k&hl=en You get geographic information and directory information depending on how you search Google Earth -A windows dependant high performance desktop application. This as additional features an paid options for higher resolution. I suspect many of the extra directories, etc. will find their way into the main map web program . So, the Windows people have a big bulky app as usual - which potential costs for better service. Everyone else has the Staellite project. Here are some good sites using them: http://googlemapsmania.blogspot.com/ http://gmaps.nicj.net/ http://www.housingmaps.com/ UNESCO World Heritage Sites http://labs.beffa.org/worldheritage/ So - it would be interesting for the original post ot be addressed. Any ideas for the open Satellite API use or the Google Earh app? -- Rich _______________________________________________ DIGITALDIVIDE mailing list [email protected] http://mailman.edc.org/mailman/listinfo/digitaldivide To unsubscribe, send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the body of the message.
