Further to the postings regarding low cost computers, USD 100 laptops and
simputers, in order to provide ICT interventions to the roof of the world in
the country of Mt. Everest, as the chairperson of Forum for IT Nepal (FIT
Nepal) we have been assisting in creating rural tele-centers owned and
managed by the community. The 10th 5 year plan of Nepal envisions setting
up rural telecenters in 1,500 villages.

The other challenge is not only to create this infrastructure, but also to
be able to provide adequate training to the community to be able to get the
proper benefits of these telecenters. In this context, we are now
developing a project whereby engineering students of the capital Kathmandu
will travel to the villages to share their knowledge and bring the awareness
higher. We are now trying to set up a 'mobile' lab of 30 laptops that can
be easily carried to the remote villages (presently limited to where there
is electricity only) and teach computers for 18 days and then moving on to
the other village for a total of 4 months at a stretch.

For this project, we are looking for funding in the tune of USD10K to
procure this mobile training infrastructure and would like to start a dialog
with any of the institutions or foundations would like to assist us in this
project.
