hi everyone -

when i was taking high school calculus a while back, my calculus
teacher explained to the class that we would encounter differential
equations in my different areas of our lives.

a minute ago i was thinking that the membership in the DDN email list
and DDN web site is in some ways a differential equation. the more
people who join the list (and web site), the more likely other people
will join.

the current number of members on the DDN web site is 8,400. thanks for
thinking if you know any friends or colleagues to invite onto the site
(and email list -- if they so choose.) it takes just a minute or two
to register on the DDN site at http://www.digitaldivide.net

once the DDN reaches the 10,000 member mark, all of a sudden this
community becomes more newsworthy. a single article in a mainstream
magazine or newspaper might take the membership to the 50,000 or
100,000 member mark -- within a single week.

as i see it, the larger our online community, the more we'll able to
get valuable work done for the offline communities we're connected
with.

           - phil
