The International Open Source Network Model

==========================================================================

This fifth APDIP e-Note introduces readers to what a community or practice
is and describes how one community of practice (CoP), the International Open
Source Network (IOSN), builds a participatory, sustainable and
ever-expanding CoP in an online environment.

IOSN is focused on promoting the strategic use of free/open source software
(FOSS) solutions for sustainable human development. This APDIP e-Note
explores how IOSN: (i) expands its network to promote FOSS solutions using
electronic mailing lists and really simple syndication (RSS) feeds; (ii)
encourages members to participate in the community through blogs, forums,
polls and wikis; and (iii) develops a culture of sharing among members.

APDIP e-Notes are brief snapshots that present analyses of specific issues
related to information and communication technologies (ICTs) for sustainable
human development in the Asia-Pacific region. This online series introduces
readers to the who, what, where, why and how of a wide range of current
issues related to ICTs such as Internet governance, ICTs and poverty
alleviation, e-governance, free and open source software, and many others.
