Hi everyone -- I've been sharing Jim Hobbs' reports with another list, but thought perhaps you'd appreciate this one.
Here's his on-the-scene summary: The wi-fi network, "CityOfNewOrleans" was available with good signal strength along Magazine Street in the New Orleans Central Business District from Canal Street through the CBD and through the Warehouse District and about as far as Calliope St. with good signal strength. The network reaches Convention Center Boulevard, in front of the Morial Convention Center. Although the [news] report says that the network is available in the French Quarter, I did not encounter it until at Canal St. along N. Peters St./Decatur St. However, there are a number of open access networks along Decatur St. between Esplanade Ave. and Bienville St. Many identify themselves as belonging to hotels, night clubs, and coffee shops. This was during the early evening of Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005.
