Dear Prof. Antich
Just for clarification Professor, I believe you are using the term
"recycle" when you actually mean "reuse". To recycle a computer is to
demanufacture it and find use for the raw materials from which it is
made - thus it is no longer a computer. Reuse is to continue to use the
computer as it was manufactured to be used.
We at The Virtual Scavengers refurbish Pentium IIs and IIIs for
stand-alone use and if we use Pentiums its usually only in Thin Client
Networks. We don't reuse 486s or lower.

Dear amigo Andy:
You are absolutely right by moderating the list
and stopping the 100 dollars laptop thread .
There are many other vitally important issues
to deal with, in order to reduce the digital
divide's width...
For example, there are lots of people talking
about recycling computers and using recycled
computers...
But my question to the list members is where
is the "frontier" for recycling, in other words
today, at the end of 2005, which machines
are worth recycling.... can 486DX2 be recycled
and then kept working when they are in need
of repairs?
Or are Pentium I machines with 133 mHz CPU's
the lower edge of the list of candidates...
Opinions on this topic will be most appreciated..
either posted to the DDN list or if longer
and more specific , to my yahoo e-mail address
