Hello to all, In the interest of full disclosure, I work for Thirteen/WNET in New York. While I don't often toot the horn of the organization or our content, we have a program which I believe people should know about. In February (check your local listings for times) we will be airing AFRICAN AMERICAN LIVES, hosted by Dr. Henry Louis Gates. The program uses a combination historical research, geneology, and DNA analysis to find the roots of several prominent African Americans. The website www.pbs.org/wnet/aalives includes links for educators and additional resources for those interested in learning more. It is my hope that this series opens the door to greater discussions of what it means when we call our selves hyphenate-Americans of any type and how our perceptions of the traits which describe someone as "other" might not hold such great value when viewed under the light of increased knowledge. This is by no means the definitive source for research in the subject but if more people open their eyes to seeing things from a new perspective, we all will be the better for it.
