Thursday, February 16 was Illinois' Community Technology Day. Our new Coalition gathered in Springfield to publicly announce ourselves to Illinois' legislators and to affirm our commitment to grassroots values in the cause of Digital Literacy, Access & Equity.
Meeting at ComputerBanc, a Springfield CTC/Computer Recycling Center we reflected on our core values and the status and history of Digital Literacy efforts in Illinois. We closed our meeting with some words from Marty Cohen, currently Director of Consumer Affairs in the Office of the Governor, and long admired for his leadership at the Citizen's Utility Board. Our trip to the Legislature met with a small scheduling snafu quite out of our control: the schedule of the House was moved up by 3 hours the day before. Consequently we were unable to be recognized as planned. Nevertheless, on the floor of the House we found opportunity to present an award from CTCNet Chicago to Representative Connie Howard for her long service as Illinois' Civic eChampion. We're pleased with the progress we are making in Illinois, but we know there is a long way to go. It is a challenge to address social policy issues at multiple leveles, but, that's what is necessary. If you are in Illinois, join with our coaliiton. If you are in the Midwest, join us at our fall conference. Wherever you are: organize your community. ____________________________________________________________________________ Michael Maranda President, The Association For Community Networking (AFCN) http://www.afcn.org Executive Director, CTCNet Chicago Chapter http://www.ctcnetchicago.org Co-Chair, Illinois Community Technology Coalition (ilCTC) http://www.ilctc.org _______________________________________________ DIGITALDIVIDE mailing list DIGITALDIVIDE@mailman.edc.org http://mailman.edc.org/mailman/listinfo/digitaldivide To unsubscribe, send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the body of the message.
