Hello all:

As most folks familiar with my writings (rantings?) know, I work for in public
television for Thirteen/WNET and there is something coming up that may be of
interest.

Thirteen and WLIW are hosting a conference for thousands of educators and
parents called the Celebration of Teaching and Learning on March 24-25 at Pier
94 here on the Westside of Manhattan (55th Street & 12th Avenue). You can find
out more at www.thirteencelebration.org and there is a .pdf 1-sheet which I
will gladly e-mail to anyone interested.

I'd like to spread the word among schools, educators, a broader circle of
friends and associates to tell them about the Celebration and to encourage them
to attend the professional development conference. Tickets to the professional
development conference component of the Celebration cost $180, giving
participants access to top speakers and many small break-out sessions.

For teachers, who don’t want the serious professional development package or
for parents, advocate and the public at large who have a strong interest in
education, we are offering FREE GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS, which provide entry
to more general-interest events. These events happen on both days, but there is
much more on Saturday when General Admission gets them in to see Richard
Dreyfuss, Frank McCourt, the Hobart Shakespeareans, Gwen Ifill, and the student
stars of the hit movie Mad Hot Ballroom. Plus in the Thirteen and WLIW Exhibit
Hall space – called the Studio – they can listen to our producers talking about
their programs, get their pictures taken with Digit (CYBERCHASE), Piggley
(JAKERS), or Theo (BETWEEN THE LIONS), and also go on camera to record their
feelings about public television. It’s classic public television: high quality
information and entertainment! The same pdf (mentioned above) also describes
how people can get these tickets.

Again, these tickets are free, but people do have to register.

If anyone has questions, please feel free to e-mail me.
