But someone needs to take the time to work on it and make it efficient enough to use (possibly doing stuff like making it so that it only kicks in at least a certain amount of memory is used to keep the common case fast but make the memory-intensive cases work). And no one has done that.
I suggested this several times: work the GC so it only intervenes if the consumed memory would otherwise be prohibitively large. That way there's never a collection during normal compilation.
