at
(y - sqrt(y^2 + 1)) + 1/(y + sqrt(y^2 + 1))



No, he means what he wrote, which is
|y-√(y²+1)| - 1/(y+√(y²+1)).

In D notation:
abs(y-sqrt(y^^2+1)) - 1/(y+sqrt(y^^2+1)).
