Hello Sea,
The Marin Headlands are awesome. Spend some time out there exploring old bunkers and missile sites. For general info--the Bay Area is a big place. If you'll be living in SF, Silicon Valley, etc, it may help to offer more focused advice.
I don't have a place yet, but towards the south end of the bay (Silicon Valley etc.) is where I'm looking.
