Because people are used to those names due to their wide use. It's the
same reason that we still use Qwerty keyboards.

We should be careful in assuming what people are used to. Compare:

D/Python/Lisp/... - strip

.NET/Delphi/Java/Qt/Haskell/... - Trim/trim/trimmed

stripl/stripr are TrimStart/TrimEnd in .NET
