Gour, please disregard the troll above. If you're going with Python and Qt, I'd wholeheartedly recommend this book: http://www.qtrac.eu/pyqtbook.html Making GUIs with PyQT is dead simple. And Nokia already has that new LGPL(I think?)-licensed binding in place - http://www.pyside.org. So your decision might not be bad at all.
What type of desktop app are you building? Does it need to be very-high performance? Python itself isn't too bad with Qt, I don't think it was slow in any way the last time I used it.
