I assumed I must have been doing something wrong when I filed this: http://d.puremagic.com/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=6121 . But I guess not. I can't link DDMD with the DMD 2.053 backend because of this. I'd have to change DMD's long types to int, which might not be a big issue but I'd rather avoid having to patch every release..
